Through the Eyes of a Church Planting Executive

He Walked Away from a Million!

Hunter Mahan walked away from a million dollar prize. Why? Because he wanted to be with his wife for the birth of their child. Yes, he was leading in a professional golf tournament when the call came that Candi had gone into labor. He was ahead after 36 rounds and positioned to win big. Yet he chose wisely, went straight to the hospital and has no regrets. I applaud him! What a great role model for other young dads who will take notice. When our daughter was born, I was there for the delivery. The next day I decided to go into the church office to check the mail and plans for Sunday worship. I stayed too long and missed being in the hospital room when my wife needed me and I missed the special dinner for new parents the hospital had planned. When our second child was born, I knew where I wanted to be and needed to stay. I was there for six days as we waited for the doctor's release to take our son home.

I would not trade any of the days I spent with my wife and children in their formative years. I was blessed and so were they. There are just some things in this world that money, prizes and fame cannot take the place of. Choose now where you will invest your life. Someone is waiting for you to be present with them.
